Welcome to "West Lothian University of the Third Age" (WL U3A)
Home Page

Try something new and make friends - that is the challenge set by West Lothian U3A.

What is the University of the Third Age?

The 'University of the Third Age’ (U3A) is a unique lively, friendly and exciting self help educational movement offering a wide range of creative and leisure activities for those whose days are no longer tied to earning a living. It is a good way to meet people and to make new friends. Costs are minimal because our activities are organised by our members, who share their skills and expertise.

We have a monthly meeting with a wide variety of speakers together with a growing number of smaller ‘Activity Groups’ focussing on different subjects. Whether it is Painting for Pleasure, French, Art or Music Appreciation, Poetry, or getting to grips with computers, there is friendly support to get you started whatever your level of knowledge or educational background.

Some members have a great depth of experience in their own field and U3A gives them the opportunity to share their knowledge and enthusiasm to inspire and support others.

The annual subscription is £15. This covers administrative costs, rentals, purchase of equipment and fees for guest speakers. There is no additional charge for membership of the various Activity Groups but you may need to pay for refreshments and any course materials provided. Everyone is welcome to attend one of our monthly meetings to find out more and decide whether U3A is for them.

How do I join?

Just print out and fill in the registration form and return it to the West Lothian U3A together with your remittance for £15.

We will send you a membership card and a list of groups giving times and locations where they meet, together with the dates and topics of the monthly meetings which are held on the third Wednesday of the month at Uphall Community Centre at 2:00 pm.
